OBX Food

Where do you eat in the OBX "Outer Banks, North Carolina"

Where do you eat in the OBX “Outer Banks, North Carolina” for the people who have no idea what I am talking about? I find that the best part of a trip can be the meals. When you visit the Outerbanks it is a curiously quiet, laid back, its destiny is defined by it’s unique geography. The Outer Banks are barrier islands off the coast of the U.S. state of North Carolina, separating the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. I had the pleasure of being hosted at the restaurants below as part of my girlfriend getaway. The opinions are my own and I only included the food I would eat again in my review below.

I suggest you bring your stretchy pants if you plan to eat at any of the places below.

I consider dessert a meal so I had to share my favorite dessert first. If you know me you know I like cupcakes. I would start at the Tullio’s Bakery. They are located at 1187 Duck Rd, Duck, NC 27949.

Yes, they offer everything imaginable but I would stay glued to the cupcake although their cannoli doughnut may be enough to persuade me to fall in love. The only thing sweeter than the cupcakes and treats are the owners!

The other thing that I love is Tapas. I am just one of those people that like a little of everything. I seriously could be happy with cheese, wine, cupcakes, bread and meat for the rest of my life but my husband insists on having us eat vegetables so I ordered a salad and that was an excellent decision. OBX Trio . offered a blend of comfort food with classic favorites. We were dazzled by the offerings.

The Smoky Garlic Shrimp was fantastic it is a jumbo shrimp in a garlic paprika butter with roasted cherry tomatoes. They paired it with a warm baguette and the Crab Pot Pie Jumbo lump crab in a cava cream sauce with veggies, topped with a pastry crust and baked until golden was heavenly. I am still wondering if they will deliver to Virginia. The cheese boards were tasty and I may have licked my fingers after eating the cheese and honey. The calories were worth it. OBX Trio is located at 3708 N Croatan Hwy, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949. The owner and the staff were superb. This is the perfect place to watch a game in style or grab a nibble and a drink.

I highly suggest you take a journey to Manteo, NC . It  wraps around Shallowbag Bay on the eastern side of Roanoke Island, part of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. If you are on the Manteo waterfront you need to check out the Hungry Pirate Waterfront Cafe it is nestled in a building so follow the stairs up you will be overjoyed that you did. The Hungry Pirate Water Front Cafe is located at 207 Queen Elizabeth Ave, Manteo, NC 27954.

The location is a little cafe expertly decorated to evoke a smile. The sandwiches were packed with fresh ingredients. The food was so good I couldn’t help myself and I ordered another sandwich because my friends looked so good too. I had the meat and she had the veggie. I just couldn’t resist and I am glad I didn’t. The fancy drinks were also fun. I mean why not have fun at a ladies lunch. The potato salad was incredible I would have brought some with me but I couldn’t figure out how I would keep it cold. I was pleasantly surprised to find such exceptional lunch food at a cafe. The views were nice and walking around in the town made this a memorable experience for these foodies.

Steamers located at 1 Ocean Blvd #115, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949. They offer both an eat in and a take out menu. I have no idea why you wouldn’t want to dine in their restaurant it is beautiful. When I entered their door I was taken aback by the upscale vibe. This restaurant continued to shock me in a positive way. The food start from finish was exceptional. I have never had a better piece of salmon and the fresh fried clam strips were both flavorful and light. When I usually eat friend food I have regrets the only regret I have from that meal was not saving room for more of them. You can’t blame me when they brought out the shrimp and lobster bruschetta it was hard to resist.

If you are looking for a crab cake this one is a must order it sits on top of a creamy and savory mac and cheese. You can quote me on this it is “droll worthy”. If you close your eyes you may see heaven. Their drink specials were also plentiful and I am not even someone who drinks but I was easily converted. The charm, food, and the cheesecake are reasons I would come back to steamers and I would invite all my friends.

Brunch at Red Sky Cafe located at 1197 Duck Rd, Duck, NC 27949. If you want to be the envy of all your friends then you must come here. I mean it and ask for the special board Dana Vento and Amee from Real Advice Gal had. You will not be disappointed. The chef Wes is personable and talented. He also offers a chef to order service so he will come and cook for you and your friends at your home. How cool is that? You will love the powerful flavor combinations that melt in your mouth. You will be hard pressed to not drag your fingers through the remnants on your plate. You will however, try your best to get every drop on your fork and wait until he perfect moment when your company isn’t watching to grab the last spec of food. The food is well balanced comfort food without the conventional weight it automatic and delicious. The fish was fresh, well seasoned, and accompanied with the perfect flavors. The shrimp and grits were light and creamy. You will not be disappointed by anything you select on his menu.

I am now making brie cheese grilled cheese dipped in apple butter my kids thank you chef Wes my tight jeans despise you. He is the author of Tastefully Fit so I will be picking that cookbook up and using it!
