Find a Real Mermaid at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park
The sparkles reflected off the sea densely glittered in the hope of desired treasure. Their tales flapped out of the ocean creating waves in their path and increasing the rhythmic palpitations of the sailors whose dreams they filled. Did they see a real mermaid or was it just the ramification of time spent with only blue and green waves lapping restlessly as far as the eye could see?
Do Real Mermaids Exist?
The sailors, the children, and the story books that have been filled with the tales of a real mermaid colony resides in the sea. I asked my husband who served in the Navy and he told me it might just be a result of being on a ship for far longer than you should. I can say we were able to find a real mermaid at Weeki Wachee Springs.
Weeki Wachee Springs State Park
Located just outside of Tampa, Florida. It could be worlds away. It was an enjoyable experience for my family. There was a show complete with mermaids. The show featured the mermaids performing tricks and dances in an aquarium. It was easy to see from all seats, and there were even sea creatures swimming freely with them. The turtle in the tank tried to steal the show while we were there. It takes extensive training to become a mermaid, and you can tell why when you see the show.
More about the State Park
Then we took a boat ride and learned the history of the springs at this state park. We were able to see many of the birds that call the spring their home. We saw several people in kayaks, and it was noted you could rent them if you wished to explore the water on your own. If you want to get into the spring opportunity is offered to you at the water park and in the swimming area.
I hardly saw my children; they enjoyed each slide a million times, according to my daughter. They loved the slides, and I loved the intermingling of nature and play all in one place for an exceptional price. I will advise you to check Weeki Wachee on social media to make sure the park has room.
Tips for visiting Weeki Wachee Springs
We found that the park filled up quickly, and I understand why. It was very reasonable. It had a mermaid show, live animal demonstrations, boat tour, and water park complete with water slides and a mini splash park for young adventurers with an area to swim and play. They even had a little beach area for parents like me that needed a break.
You can save money by packing your lunch and bringing small floatation devices, check their website for size limitations. You can also save money by buying an annual pass. We were thrilled with how little our day of fun cost. I highly suggest including Weeki Wachee Springs State Park into your itinerary if you are in the Tampa area.
We were inspired by our trip to Weeki Wachee Springs and the beaches in Florida to make our very own mermaid crowns. See how we created these incredible crowns at Real Advice Gal.
