Afton Alps
Afton Alps
For 50 years, Afton Alps has delighted the Twin Cities’ families as one of the Midwest’s premier winter destinations. Nestled in the scenic St. Croix River Valley just outside Minneapolis and St. Paul, this sprawling resort poured $10 million this fall 2013 into re-imagining the guest experience with rennovated base area facilities, a powerful state-of-the-art snowmaking system and a new cutting edge terrain park.
This ski lodge is so nice! It has 15 ski lifts and tons of trails. Plenty of room to go skiing and snowboarding all day long. They even have free classes if you are beginning or just want to brush up on your skills.
My husband is really good at skiing. (see above) We had so much fun and stayed all day long.
They have a cafe where you can enjoy a burger, hot dog, fries, cheese curds or even get a warm hot chocolate. The food is a little pricey and they do allow you to bring your own food and drinks in.
You can even sit around the bonfire to warm yourself. I enjoyed sitting here sipping my hot cocoa and talking with friends.
I love that the prices are super reasonable. Only $22 for an all day lift pass if you are part of the preferred program (otherwise it’s only $32). We plan on spending at least one to two weekends every month this winter.
They’ve been around for 50 years so they definitely know what they’re doing. Being just outside the Twin Cities there are lots of hotels, restaurants and things to do. If you’re in the midwest looking for a great ski resort, I highly recommend Afton Alps.
