What we love about the Capitol KOA!
First let me say I have never been to a KOA that I didn’t like and the Capitol KOA was no different. When we were trying to find a campground for this trip the biggest criteria was proximity to Six Flags and we found several campgrounds within a 30 min drive of the amusement park. Since we would be spending a lot of time at the campground I decided to book a reservation at the KOA because I knew we would have a great time and could trust that the facilities and campground would be clean and well maintained.
What makes the Capitol KOA so Great?
JUMPING PILLOW!!!
Have you been to a KOA? If yes then you know the joy that the jumping pillow can bring. The children can jump for hours and make new friends and the parents can (believe it or not) sit and relax while the kids jump. Hallelujah!!! However, let me fill you on on a little secret, jumping on the pillow is really fun!! Do it! You will love it, I promise. And even better your kids will love that you are jumping with them. Wait for the giggles, the sweetest sound on earth!
Location, location, location!
The Capitol KOA is less than 30 miniutes from Six Flags America and why we decided to stay there. Our trip to Six Flags America was my son’s 10th birthday present/party. Since his birthday is close to Labor Day we decided to make a weekend out of it and go camping. The Capitol KOA is also located close to our …that’s right you guessed it …the Capitol. Check this out, you can take a shuttle from the campground to the Capitol. Isn’t that awesome…no traffic stress and you can spend the whole day in D.C without worrying about parking.
Shuttle Details:
Shuttle to DC leaves at 9 and returns a 5:30
$13.50 per person round trip
45 min ride
drops you off at the capitol
Pet Friendly!!
The Capitol KOA is pet friendly as are most KOA campgrounds but the Capitol KOA also has a great bark park area for your furry friends to play.
Outdoor Pool!!!
We are a water loving family. The pool is small but nice and we really enjoyed taking a dip to cool aoff after a long day spent at the amusement park.
Bring the Bikes!!
Ok, so this is probably true for many campgrounds but not all. Always make sure you ask when you make a reservation whether or not the campground is a good place to ride bikes. We have stayed at campgrounds that have rules against riding bikes due to steep terrain.
Next time you are planning a trip to Washington DC to see the sights, or go to Six Flags America, or even a visit to Washington’s Mount Vernon, I would recommend staying at the Capitol KOA. It is all around a great campground and fun place for families.
We also love the Williamsburg KOA!
