We are a family of skiiers. It is a great feeling to spend the whole day with your entire family doing something that is super fun that the whole family loves. Doing sports together as a family is a great way to enjoy each other make memories to last a lifetime. It is so rewarding to help your children learn something new and see their confidence and skills grow. Since we live in VA the ski seasons are usually short but we are very lucky to be able to go to a great ski mountain at Massanutten Ski Resort. We visited Massanutten this past week and had a great time. The snow conditions were amazing.
We have been to 4 different ski resorts as family and have found Massanutten to be the best local option for us. It has a nice mix of beginner and intermediate slopes. This is important because you want to have a bit of variety on the trails but also stick to a difficulty level you know your children can ski safely. They can practice their skills and improve their skiing with just enough challenge n the terrain to help them do so. The lift attendants are always very helpful and understand that everyone has to learn how to get on and off the lifts. They are quick to slow the lift down if needed and offer tips to help your children. One of the best parts of Massanutten is that you rarely have to wait in long lines at the lifts which means you can do a lot more skiing. The lifts use a conveyor belt lift loading system which makes it very easy for beginners to learn how to get on the lift.
We also love the lodge at Massanutten Ski Resort. Many ski places don’t let you bring your own packed lunch but Massanutten has a designated area with seating for families who want to bring their own food. This is a huge help for my family since we a very careful with our money and always travel on a budget. Since we are 2 hours away from the ski resort if we want to ski all day we have to eat two meals away from home. It is so much more affordable if we can pack a lunch and then have dinner at the ski resort restaurant. Speaking of affordability, we have found that Massanutten lift tickets and rentals really are reasonable and worth it because of the quality of the mountain including the slopes, lifts, and staff.
There is still plenty of great skiing left this winter at Massanutten. I hope to be skiing well into March since the temperatures in VA have stayed cold. If you have never been skiing in March in VA you are missing out. The conditions are great, the temperatures are a bit warmer, and the days are sunny!
