Couples Trips: Romantic Smoky Mountain Getaway
Now is the time of year when families are taking those long awaited family vacations, but what bout couples trips. If you don’t have children or you and your sweetheart simply want to get away where do you go? What do you do? My husband and I long to go on a romantic Smoky Mountain Getaway. Just the two of us. And we will. SOON!
It’s well known in our circle of friends that we travel to the Smoky Mountains with our family as often as possible. But we have never gone away just the two of us. And when we do, that is where we plan to go. I know, most people think of a cruise or the beach when they think of couples trips, but Gatlinburg is our vacation spot of choice and we plan on taking a much needed romantic Smoky Mountain Getaway.
But we won’t be staying in a hotel/motel room. We rent cabins when we stay in the Smoky Mountains. And there are a couple of reasons we do this. When we go as a big family, we can take and prepare our own meals in the kitchen, saving us on food, there is a hot tub, pool table, game room, theater room, etc. The reason we plan on renting a cabin for our romantic getaway is for privacy as well as convenience. I don’t want our first trip just the two of us to be spoiled by people stomping in and out of a motel at all hours of the night. I want alone time with my Hubby. We can take our own food if we decide to stay in the cabin and we can also enjoy a night out at a nice restaurant if we choose. Date night on vacation! Yeah baby!
Most of the cabin rental facilities also offer add-ons. You can create a complete getaway package by adding on a bottle of champagne and strawberries, a movie package and in some, even a steak dinner with all the trimmings, that is marinating in the fridge and ready to be prepared when you arrive. Many one bedroom cabins are totally secluded so you and your honey will have complete privacy to relax in the hot tub and just be together.
If you don’t want to spend the entire time in your cabin, there are tons of places to go hiking. There are several waterfalls in the area that are fun to hike back to. Cataract falls at the Sugarlands Visitor Center is really pretty and only a 1/2 hike. So that is something that would be fun and easy to do on couples trips.
And of course, if you and your love both like shopping, there are the outlet malls. There are several attractions to visit like go-cart racing, Ripley’s Attractions and mini-golf. The downtown strip in Gatlinburg has a lot of shops and attractions as well. There are helicopter rides, zip-lining and just enjoying the scenery. Take a picnic in Cades Cove and you might even spot a mama bear and her cubs! Really, there is so much to do in the Smoky Mountains.
We are also thinking of going to Tennessee on couples only trip. We have friends our own age that we never get to hang out with, adults only. There are always loads of kids in the background. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE having my kids with me. But sometimes, I’d like to just hang out with our friends like old times. I think it would be fun to occasionally take adults only weekend couples trips.
Where do you like to go for romantic getaways? Do you ever go as a group on couples trips?
