With the Fall Colors starting to appear, my friend and I decided to head up near Petosky,MI. We were looking for somewhere local to stay that would allow us to experience the beauty that Fall brings to Northern,MI. The Birchwood Inn of Harbor Springs is located right at the entrance to the Tunnel of Trees along M119.
The Birchwood Inn is the place to stay when looking for a getaway spot with rustic charm and a quaint country charm. All of the staff was very friendly and this is nice to stay after a long road trip. The decor is very outdoorsy and a large sitting room is open to all guests to gather. There is a large fireplace in the sitting room which creates a relaxing atmosphere.
We had a 2 queen bed room and it provided plenty of space for 2 people. Storage was not a problem as there were 2 suitcase holders and a large closet to store our clothes. We could also sit and enjoy the view and each others company at the table and chairs in our room. This is so much nicer than talking to someone while sitting on bed. It also allowed us time to visit in private with a friend who lives nearby and came to visit. Getting ready in the morning was simple because there was a mirror in the room with enough counter space for two people.
Harbor Springs is a great place to take a family vacation and the Birchwood Inn is perfect for family gatherings, retreats or group vacations. In the winter there are plenty of winter sports to take advantage of. You can also stay connected with FREE WiFi. Cook your own food on the gas grills that they have for family use, this would come in handy if on a family vacation or a family reunion. You can also relax in their Heated Pool that is fenced in so you won’t have to worry about the children accidentally falling in.
A complimentary breakfast is served every morning. This allowed us to get an early start on our day visiting the city of Harbor Springs.
If you have a family pet you are welcome to bring them with you as they are Dog Friendly. This will help you save on boarding and kennel costs and your furry friend will be happy they get to come along.
You will want to make sure you bring a clock or use the alarm on your phone as there is not one in the room. You will also want to ask which door is the best to go in if you have any problems with steps. There are not many but without handrails even a few steps can be hard for someone with a handicap, knee or hip problems. There is a back entrance so you just need to request a first floor room and let the staff know. They are happy to assist. 
There are many things to do in Harbor Springs and it is only a short drive to Petosky. If you are going in the fall, the Tunnel of Trees is a beautiful site and it is glorious and green in the summer.
