Best Breakfast Places Near the University of Virginia – UVA Charlottesville

I’ve lived near Charlottesville for years, and one thing I’ve always found challenging is finding a good breakfast place. There are several options around town, but many are grab-and-go places. I have discovered a couple of locations with limited seating, though. One thing is that the best breakfast places near the University of Virginia are absolutely delicious. I will admit that our search is weekly after a good workout at ACAC. After all, a girl deserves a reward… right?

The best grab-and-go bakeries with limited seating are:

1. MarieBette Café & Bakery

MarieBette is like Paris on a plate. They have two locations close but not on campus. It is fine after a quick bite; you can stroll around downtown at their Petite MarieBette location.

If you go to the larger location, just know tables are first-come, first-served. They do offer an order-ahead option that I highly recommend. The pastries are melt-in-your-mouth madness.

2. Albemarle Baking Company

This Charlottesville bakery leaves no doubt that their passion is evident in every bag. I suggest the Apple Pastry Cream Brioche.

It is frankly what heaven tastes like. My favorite cake in the entire world is their Princess Cake. I suggest grabbing a pastry for breakfast, a loaf of their artisan bread, and a slice of Princess Cake to hide from your family and eat all by yourself. You deserve it!

They are closed on Sundays and do offer an order-ahead option. They also have a few tables available.

Breakfast places within walking distance from the University of Virginia (UVA):

1. Bodo’s Bagels

A Charlottesville staple and my family’s breakfast choice after we walk at UVA is Bodo’s Bagels. We usually order a dozen bagels, cream cheese, and request mustard. Then we have a feast. The bagels are homemade, delicious, and authentically Charlottesville. I also like their corned beef sandwich on a cinnamon raisin bagel.

2. Fig UVA

Fig UVA

Another breakfast place by UVA is located right across from Grounds. Fig by Grounds offers a variety of scrumptious options at a reasonable price. We were able to walk in easily, and the service was excellent. I still suggest reserving a table just to make sure you are not waiting. They serve an eclectic variety of artisan cuisine that tempts you to try something new. You will love it.

3. The Ridley

The Ridley is a favorite. The last time we went, the North Carolina basketball team was there. I assume the hotel attached is a location that teams choose. Not to worry, we received excellent service, and the food was plentiful.

Spots that aren’t far from UVA for breakfast but you will have to drive:

1. First Watch

First Watch is a chain restaurant that offers a wide array of food choices. I would go online and reserve your spot in line. It is always busy because the meals are delicious, and they serve large parties. I often order the eggs Benedict with potatoes. Savings tip: they usually have a spend $50, gift card and receive $10 gift card. While you are waiting, buy the gift cards. It is a great way to save $10.

2 Milk & Honey

For an elevated meal, I highly recommend Milk and Honey. Again, reserve a table online. I had the best shrimp and grits. My friend had the French toast, and it was exceptional. They can seat large parties. This Southern charm establishment offers service with a smile and cuisine that fills you with love.
