Having Fun at the Woodward Dream Cruise

19th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise

You know summer is coming to a close when Woodward starts filling up with classic cars and sidewalks full of onlookers. This is not your typical sign of summer ending but instead a signal that the Woodward Dream Cruise is right around the corner. The Woodward Dream Cruise comes the 3rd Saturday of August and this year celebrated 19 years since it first started. Although the cruise is officially on Saturday you can expect to find fun things in the area the whole week before.

Our family has enjoyed this event for the past 5 years and it is the perfect way to celebrate the end of Summer and the start of a new school year. This year on Friday afternoon, we cruised down to Ferndale,MI where we explored First Responder Vehicles from Fire Trucks to Police Cars. There was even a hands on area for the kids sponsored by the Ferndale Fire Department. Kids had the chance to put out a “pretend” fire with a genuine fire hose and go for a basket ride on the hook and ladder truck.>

After our trip down Memory Lane in Ferndale, we cruised on over to Berkley,MI to see what they had to offer the night before the Woodward Dream Cruise. Friday night is capped off  with the Berkley Cruisefest. More than 400 classic cars cruise slowly down 12 Mile Rd giving onlookers the chance to take in each car from front row seating along each side of the road.

We hit the Woodward Dream Cruise very early Saturday morning and logged over 17,000 steps and 7 1/2 miles.  I wish I could say that we lost weight from walking but we stopped and sampled many delicious treats along Woodward. Along our route we tasted the new Faygo Golden and Everfresh’s 5 new Apple Juice Flavors – Premier Varietals. There were many vendors to shop and browse in between looking out the great classic cruisers and awesome hot rods. We stopped to take many pictures and my daughter loved jumping in everyone. She has grown up attending the Woodward Dream Cruise and it is an important part of our summer.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is not complete without a little clown fun at the Kroger and Faygo Kid’s Zone. Here LuLuBelle and her friend were giving out FREE Face and Arm Paintings. My daughter selected a Pink snake to charm her arm. After a great day at the Woodward Dream Cruise we start counting down the days until it returns next year. So don’t be shy and make plans to visit Michigan next year for the 20th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.
