DoG Street Pub in Merchants Square

If you are planning a trip to Williamsburg, VA you should plan to stay a while. There is so much to see and do! One of the tough decisions is where to eat as great restaurants abound. To help you decide, we visited the DoG Street Pub in the Merchants Square Shopping District. This restaurant was amazing and you should consider adding it to the top of your list for places to eat near Colonial Williamsburg.

Make a reservation. This place was hopping busy but we had a reservation and we were seated within minutes if walking in the door. Folks who did not have a reservation had a bit of a wait. Which in my opinion as long as you plan ahead I like knowing that people are willing to wait to eat somewhere to me it is sign that it is a good choice.

Bring your growler! The DoG Street Pub has a fantastic selection of craft beers, not only from VA but from all over the globe. If you are a beer drinker you will have a hard time deciding which beer to take home and will not be disappointed with the selection.

Go hungry. We enjoyed the Fish n Chips and Brick Chicken. I don’t know how things work when you go out to eat with your spouse but when we go out to eat and I can’t decide on a single dish I make my husband order my second choice. Then we switch plates. I can never resist the chance to have really good fish n chips and I could just tell it would be a great choice at the DoG Street Pub. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the brick chicken too but my favorite part of that meal was the brussel sprouts. When brussel sprouts are cooked just right they are divine. They were so good I had to take a picture.

Take the kids! I think it is always a challenge to find a place that both the kids and parents feel like they are both getting a treat especially when you are on vacation. Dining with kids sometimes is more trouble than it is worth. However, the DoG Street Pub has a great children’s menu and the atmosphere is lively so you do not need to worry so much about excited children. It is rare to find a restaurant that serves such a fantastic menu and beer selection that also has food to please the youngest and pickiest of palettes.  My son ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. It was the biggest grilled cheese sandwich I have ever seen. He even shared it with his friend!
